Monday - Thursday, May 4-7, 2020: *CREATIVE WRITING! *Once Upon a Time - 1) PART 1: Folk tales, fairy tales, and other narratives from oral traditions show up in all cultures, often as different versions of the same story! The story "Cinderella," for example, is "Aschenputtel" in Germany and "Yeh-Shen" in China! Think of a folk tale or fairy tale that you enjoy, and research online similar stories/fairy tales in other cultures. Fold a piece of paper in half so you have two columns; one for the American character, and one for the other country. Here, you will write your similarities & differences of both stories based on characters, settings, plots, and culture! In a presentation, we will share the stories we came up with on a Zoom lesson! We will describe the differences and similarities of the stories you came up with!
2) PART 2: Using whatever materials you already have in your home, create a symbolic art piece that is tied into your story. For example, if I did the story "Rapunzel", I might build the tower that she was trapped in out of Legos! Something else I could do is maybe mold Pascal out of green clay/Play-doe! I could also attempt to make Rapunzel with her long hair out of cooked spaghetti noodles! :D Be creative with whatever you have around your house -don't go out any buy anything! Find what you already have anywhere in the house (with your parents' permission, of course) :)
3) This project is due Thursday, 5/7 on a Zoom class (just like we did last week). We will present our findings of different fairy tales or folk tales and compare them to our current ones that we already know. Then, we will also share what we created with our symbolic art piece that is tied to your fairy tale! So, you will be graded on your participation in Zoom on Thursday -everyone must present their findings on stories in other cultures. You will also be graded on the art piece you created that is based on your story.
4) Have fun with this! I cannot wait to see what you come up with on Thursday! Ok. Remember that you have 3 days to complete this! Don't leave it until last minute! Email or text your questions and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. firstname.lastname@example.org 5) Zoom class Thursday, May 7th, 8:30 a.m. I'll post codes for class later. See ya then!

Wednesday, April 22, 2020: *Scavenger Hunt Day! *Today we are doing something a little different. We are going on a Scavenger Hunt around the house for the parts of speech! *Remember:
NOUNS = A PERSON, PLACE, THING, OR IDEA
VERBS = SHOW ACTION
ADJECTIVES = DESCRIBE NOUNS
*I will tell you how many nouns, verbs, and adjectives to find in your house. You will gather them altogether on the floor or on a table that is big enough, and then take a picture of them at once. You will send this picture to me via text or email. (My cell phone is 773-544-5829 and my email is email@example.com) Don't forget to add your name in the subject box or tell me who you are when sending the pictures. Be creative! For the verbs (since they show action), you can take a picture of someone doing something or draw a picture of someone doing something. If you draw a picture, make sure you scan/take a pic of the picture to me. Verbs are actions done by any living thing. So, your pictures could be of people or animals doing something.
*So, this is what you will need for the Scavenger Hunt:
Find 10 nouns (any nouns)
Find 2 verbs
For the 5 adjectives: 1) Find something that is purple
2)Find something that is soft 3) Find something that is large/big 4) Find something that is delicious to you 5) Find something that is square-shaped
RULES: *None of your items can be counted as 2; overlapping. You have to have separate items for each category. *You can take 1 clear picture of all the items, or you can take 4 separate pictures; 1 for the nouns, 1 for one verb, 1 for the other verb, and 1 for your adjectives. *Just have fun with this! I can't wait to see what you come up with! :) *The Scavenger Hunt ends on Friday, 4/24! I will need all your pictures on this day.

5. Prepositional Phrases are: words/phrases that begin with a preposition and ends with a noun. 6. So, just like yesterday's example of anywhere a mouse is located, the WHOLE phrase/word chunk is a prepositional phrase: "under the table" "across the room" "in the hole" "on the table" "beside the wall", etc. *The bolded words/phrases are prepositional phrases. 7.
